I started Michelle Warner Designs in May 2018 in a small studio in my backyard.  It was just me and my trusty laser cutter, a ‘non-branded’ machine with a cutting size of 600 x 400mm.  As my Business grew, the request for larger scale projects increased, so in February 2020, I upgraded to my dream machine - an industrial sized machine manufactured by Trotec with a cutting size of 1300 x 900mm.  This, plus the addition of my new Mimaki UV printer in March 2022 allowed my business to expand greatly – and I’m now designing and creating both laser cut and UV printed products. 

 

More about Michelle

I grew up in the beautiful Barossa Valley in South Australia. As a child I loved all things arty and spent my days drawing, painting, colouring and crafting. This evolved into spending my teenage years ‘helping’ my Dad complete woodwork projects on weekends, and by my early-20’s I had already started designing, hand-making and selling small woodwork pieces such as jewellery boxes.  My favourite timber to work with was (and still is) Western Red Cedar – the smell is just beautiful.

It was 'tools down' for me when I chose to work overseas in the USA for a little while. When I returned, life became too busy for woodwork, I was working as a travel agent, and studying to become a Primary School Teacher.

It must have been something to do with teaching and inspiring little minds that in turn, inspired my creative side once again. I started designing and creating earrings and chopping boards, amongst other things, and pretty soon, I was flooded with requests for people to buy what I was making.  And Michelle Warner Designs was born.

I realised pretty quickly that full time teaching, juggling 3 amazing kids and running Michelle Warner Designs was a tricky balance.  Therefore, in Jan 2020, I decided to relinquish my full time teaching gig, to try and obtain the much sought after – work/life balance.  I now work as a relief teacher, have plenty of time to spend with my beautiful family, and can focus on designing and creating unique products for my wonderful clients.
